We Planted a Church in Lomé, Togo!

In early November 2025, a Catch the Fire team of Canadians, Americans and one Brit came together in Lomé, Togo to celebrate the establishment of a new church plant there. We held a three-day conference, two services in the new church building, and three nights of training for the leaders of the new church. Our time in Togo was amazing, but it was clear that this trip was just a small piece of a much larger story that God has been writing in this country!

The story of Catch the Fire Lomé started in 2010 when Pastors Terry Caron and Gerry Plunkett were connected with a Togolese believer on fire for God, Sélom Klutse, through a mutual friend. Together, they held regular conferences in Lomé over the next 15 years, building relationships and traction in the area. When it was finally time to plant a church, Sélom was a clear choice for head pastor!

During our trip, we were blessed to see some of the fruit of all these years of sowing. Each service had the feeling of old friends coming together, united by the same Spirit that had so deeply impacted each of our lives. And the Lord was faithful to move and minister again! One woman shared a testimony that she felt God’s presence more and more as each member of the team prayed over her at the conference, so much that it felt like God had sent our team all the way from North America just to bless her.

Although the services were powerful, I was most impacted by the faith of the people we met in Togo. In spite of language barriers, cultural differences, and limited time to get to know each other, there was a distinct unity that we felt with our new friends in Togo. This could only be explained by the Holy Spirit which baptized all of us, “so as to form one body,” as discussed in 1 Corinthians 12:13. In the same way that the body needs the hand as much as it needs the foot, the body of Christ needs the church of Togo as much as it needs the church of America (or any other place). I believe that we need each other because of the strengths that we each develop in our corners of the world, and we can gain so much by choosing to learn from and love each other.

It was an honor to witness the start of this new church in Lomé and to worship and pray alongside the people whom the Lord has chosen to serve there. I’m excited and expectant for the way that God will move through this church to bless the people of Togo! If you’re reading this, pray with me that God’s kingdom would come and His will be done in Togo, as it is in heaven. Amen!
